Notable Events in the Biarritz Calendar
February
Wine and Food Fair. Farmers and wine producers from across France descend on Biarritz with tasting sessions at the Halle d'Iraty.
April
Les Fetes Musicales festival. This four-day event takes place mainly at the Casino Municipal and the Theatre Gare du Midi.
June
Oceans in Biarritz Festival.
All kinds of entertainment on offer such as open-air screenings, competitions, street theatre and live music!. For the adventurous a swim across Biarritz is one of the highlights.
July
Biarritz Surf Festival.
Festivities take place along every beach in town with no need for tickets.
For music lovers, the annual BIG Festival in July is a big beach party bringing together a mix of French and international musicians.
The last five days in July sees the Fêtes de Bayonne with a parade of illuminated floats, traditional songs and dances, musicians and temporary bars set up all over the city, as well as bull running. Les Fetes de Bayonne is France's largest festival.
August
By far the busiest month with a large Paris contingent descending on town. Through July and August there is a weekly firework display on the Grand Plage. A weekly night market also runs at the usual market venue (Halles).The French rugby season runs from late August until early May. Head up to the Stade Aguilera to catch some top flight rugby.
September
Le Temps d’Aimer - a two week long festival which features ballet and modern dance performances throughout town. Dancing and other cultural events can be seen everywhere from parks and churches, on beaches to larger auditoriums.
December
'Les Ours blancs' (polar bears) club at Port Vieux enjoy a traditional Christmas swim. The club has been active since 1929. The swim is followed by champagne on the beach.
